Companies relies on number of factors in achieving success, and one of the most important is marketing. However, many teams do not understand that to make marketing efforts more effective, they need to focus on improving marketing alignment. Marketing alignment is a term that refers to the way an overall marketing strategy aligns with a company's sales department, goals, and more.

While most marketing departments are focused on increasing sales, one that is properly aligned will go far beyond this. Examples include boosting market share, satisfying customers, and increasing your profit margins. Sales alone may appear to achieve this, but this is not necessarily true.

As an example, we can consider a company's profits. If a particular marketing strategy focuses on a particular demographic that returns a low profit margin, when a new product is focused on a higher-margin demographic, your company may want to consider where it allocates resources, rather than just looking to improve sales.

When marketing alignment occurs, companies receive improved profits and more. Allowing sales and marketing teams to work together, boosting their communication, laying down clear goals for them to reach, and turning them into two branches of one larger department will improve every aspect of how your company operates.

Marketing alignment relies on a combination of analysis, communication, and collaboration. When marketing is working with sales and other departments to analyze effectiveness, communicate with one another completely, and collaborate on projects, results will improve.
