Balancing Employee Needs with Business Requirements

Employee engagement and employee performance management truly go hand in hand. The goal for both is to create alignment between the needs, desires, skills and activities of individuals and what the business requires to achieve results. But in today's intense business environment, what managers and employees need to achieve this balance can be difficult to discern. This study of 438 organizations, surveyed in May and June 2011, examines strategies, tools and processes designed to improve engagement and performance to understand which are the most effective, and make recommendations how organizations can use them to improve employee retention, leadership benchstrength, customer satisfaction and profitable growth.

Figure 4 (above) demonstrates that there is compelling information to show that when employee engagement and performance are high, many other company-wide metrics are improved as well.  As shown in the chart, these improvements include hiring from the best talent, leadership roles fulfilled, preparing current employees to step up to key roles, and overall organizational performance.  For this reason, it is important to align individuals with their achievements and interests to foster growth and profit.
